William V. Meeker Civil War service letter, 19--?

The letter describes his military service in the Civil War but does not contain much information of battles or camps. William V. Meeker first enlisted in Co. I, 1st Vermont Infantry Regiment on May 2, 1861, in Middlebury, Vermont, and was selected as the company's first sergeant. He was mustered out August 15, 1861. He enlisted in Co. G, 11th Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 5, 1862, in New Haven, Vermont, and again was selected as first sergeant. He was promoted to second lieutenant in Co.
